Gabriel Orozco An Island Is A Circle
Gabriel Orozco
An Island Is A Circle
An Island Is A Circle spans the various bodies of work Gabriel Orozco created whilst living in Bali, Indonesia (2017-2019). The book’s design was closely overseen by the artist himself and is profusely illustrated with images of drawings, paintings and the limestone Dés sculptures made in collaboration with professional artisans in Bali. Uniquely, this new hardcover includes numerous images taken by Orozco himself, at his workshop, giving the reader insight into his process. An Island Is A Circle begins with a new narrative text from author Pablo Soler Frost, and includes an extensive new interview with curator and art historian Briony Fer which covers a vast range of works throughout Orozco’s career.
Gabriel Orozco was born in Veracruz, Mexico in 1962. He has had many international solo exhibitions at institutions including most recently at the Aspen Art Museum, Colorado (2016), the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT), Tokyo, Japan (2015) and the Moderna Museet, Sweden (2014). A major retrospective of Orozco’s work traveled from the Museum of Modern Art, New York to the Kunstmuseum Basel, Switzerland, the Centre Pompidou, Paris and the Tate Modern, London (2009-2011).
